Franklin County Court serves the residents of Franklin County, the 173th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Mount Vernon district clerk and county clerk. Franklin County Court was first built in 1898 in the Franklin Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1912. Four courthouses have been built in Mount Vernon. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
