Erath District Court serves the residents of Erath County, the 230th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Erath District Court was first built in 1862 in the Erath Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1910. Four courthouses have been built in Stephenville. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
