Yorktown Municipal Court serves the residents of DeWitt County, the 62th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Yorktown Municipal Court was first built in 1905 in the DeWitt Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1871. Four courthouses have been built in Yorktown. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
