Denton Court at Law I serves the residents of Denton County, the 16th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Denton district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Denton Court at Law I judge has been in office since 2011 and has dedicated his life serving the Denton. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Denton County Courthouse. The Denton Court at Law I is located on 1450 East McKinney Street in the city of Denton, the Denton county seat.

The administration of justice in the Denton Court at Law I is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Denton County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Denton County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Denton Court at Law I was first built in 1851 in the Denton Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1856. Four courthouses have been built in Denton. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 940-349-2520 or fax dentoncounty.gov to the court during office hours to get more information.
