Lancaster Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1852 in the Dallas Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1847. Four courthouses have been built in Lancaster. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
