Coryell County Court was first built in 1879 in the Coryell Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in December 1912. Four courthouses have been built in Gatesville. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
