Cherokee District Court serves the residents of Cherokee County, the 239th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Rusk district clerk and county clerk. The current Cherokee District Court judge has been in office since 2016 and has dedicated his life serving the Rusk. Cherokee District Court was first built in 1870 in the Cherokee Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in October 1873. Four courthouses have been built in Rusk. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
