Cherokee County Court at Law serves the residents of Cherokee County, the 239th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Cherokee County Court at Law was first built in 1871 in the Cherokee Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in February 1862. Four courthouses have been built in Rusk. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
