Hart Municipal Court serves the residents of Castro County, the 88th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Hart Municipal Court was first built in 1911 in the Castro Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in September 1862. Four courthouses have been built in Hart. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
