Point Comfort Justice of Peace Court was first built in 1890 in the Calhoun Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in July 1863. Four courthouses have been built in Port Lavaca. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
