Brown District Court serves the residents of Brown County, the 15th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Brownwood district clerk and county clerk. Brown District Court was first built in 1853 in the Brown Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in November 1861. Four courthouses have been built in Brownwood. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
