E. Duane Peters

Bryan Justice of Peace Court I serves the residents of Brazos County, the 156th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. As a result, it holds a very special role that makes it supported by both the Bryan district clerk and county clerk. Issues that should be filed with the county clerk or the district clerk should be strictly filed within the respective courts; luckily, the staff is friendly and will help you through the process.

The current Bryan Justice of Peace Court I judge has been in office since 2012 and has dedicated his life serving the Bryan. The courts, the district clerk, and the county clerk’s office are located in the historic Brazos County Courthouse. The Bryan Justice of Peace Court I is located on 206 North Washington Avenue in the city of Bryan, the Brazos county seat.

The administration of justice in the Bryan Justice of Peace Court I is open, transparent, and open to the public. All the proceedings and acts of the court are recorded and maintained by the Brazos County Clerk’s Office.  The public can access the record online or by mailing the county clerk’s office located at Brazos County Courthouse. The requests are made by creating a written statement indicating a request for the records, the case number, and requisite application fees in a stamped self-addressed envelope. For more information about court proceedings, visit the court’s official site.

Bryan Justice of Peace Court I was first built in 1882 in the Brazos Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in September 1908. Four courthouses have been built in Bryan. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome. You can call 979-361-4405 or fax 979-361-4502 to the court during office hours to get more information.
