Sweeny Municipal Court was first built in 1851 in the Brazoria Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in June 1847. Four courthouses have been built in Sweeny. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
