Maud Municipal Court serves the residents of Bowie County, the 41th largest county in Texas state. The county falls in the third senatorial district and the 11th congressional district. Maud Municipal Court was first built in 1859 in the Bowie Courthouse Square where the first sessions of the court were held alfresco underneath the boughs of oak trees in April 1891. Four courthouses have been built in Maud. The current fourth courthouse is a great architectural marvel featuring a double-spiral staircase and a beautiful stained-glass montage in the dome.
